About Camp Invention
Unleash the creative genius in your child!
The Camp Invention™ program is a weeklong adventure in creativity and STEM enrichment led by local teachers. Girls and boys entering grades 1-6 participate in five exciting hands-on modules each day. The curriculum features science, technology, engineering and math activities designed to develop teamwork, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Children must tap into their creativity to solve real-world challenges as a portal to discovery.
The Camp Invention program is presented by the non-profit Invent Now™ at over 50 local schools in PA, NJ, and DE. Three different sets of curriculum are being offered this summer: Spark™, Create™, and Innovate™.
All programs feature:
• "I Can Invent: Edison's Workshop™ module" illustrates the joys (and frustrations) that real inventors face during the invention process. Children work in teams to create multi-step inventions using pieces and parts of discarded household appliances and other upcycled materials. Younger children create ball-rolling machines, while older children create Rube Goldberg machines that solve a given challenge. Creative problem solving and critical-thinking skills are fostered in both groups, as children spend the week creating and recreating, marketing, and (mock) patenting their inventions.
• Game On: Power Play™ – Exercise your body as well as your mind when you put your own creative twist on old and new games.
Spark programs include:
• The Curious Cypher Club™ - Decipher puzzling riddles and crack unusual codes to discover who is sending mysterious messages ... and why!
• WiLD! Wondrous Innovations and Living Designs™ - Join us on an animal adventure as we investigate the survival traits of nature's most inventive animals.
• Bounce! An Atomic Journey™ - Learn about nanotechnology, chemistry, and polymers as you explore the science behind bouncy balls.
Innovate programs also include:
• Power'd™ - Experiment with different sources of energy and build a circuit to power your own motorized pet.
• SMArt: Science, Math and Art™ - Discover the beauty of mathematics through tesselations and fractals.
• Hatched! ™ - Save a virtual world that has slowly been disappearing and become an entrepreneur in the avatar marketplace!
Create programs include:
• Saving Sludge City™ – Learn how to clean up pollution and build safe landfills, and use "green" engineering principles to design a new city.
• Imagination Point: Ride Physics™ - Experiment with physics as you build roller coasters and other amusement park rides
• Problem-Solving on Planet Zak® - Crash land on an alien planet and try to survive!
