With over 40 years of experience, American Karate Studio is Wilmington's choice for quality Martial arts. The best way to understand what martial arts can do for you or your child is to actually experience American Karate Studio.
The main style we teach here at AKS is Kenpo Karate. Kenpo's roots can be traced back over 1000 years to ancient China and Japan. Kenpo, as we know it, was popularized in the United States by Grandmaster Edmund Kealoha Parker. Mr. Parker, originally from Hawaii, opened one of the very first Karate schools in the country in 1954, and spread the art all over the world. Kenpo is known for continually evolving and being a modern day practical self-defense art that will not only get you into shape but also challenge you mentally and physically and enable you to perform at a higher level.
Our school represents many influences in the martial arts. Mr. Caputo has a background in Judo, Shotokan, Goju, Kenpo and Systema. Our teaching methodologies are continually updated and modified to ensure the student not only learns the ancient traditions, but also how they relate to life and how to apply them in the modern world.
