About The Sunset Learning Center's Academic Summer School
Over the last five years, our academic summer school has grown from 18 students in 2006 to 177 kids in 2010. We offer a full-day (8:00-6:00) program with an enrichment track for thriving students and a remediation track for kids needing academic support. Students have six classes daily plus four hours of rest and recreation. Daily classes offered are English, math, geography, science, drama, art, chess, and sports. All teachers are single-subject specialists and student:teacher ratios are very low at 12:1 maximum. A speech and language pathologist is on staff in the afternoon. This summer we are hosting three academic sessions plus one week of field trips:
• Science museum week:May 31-June 3
• First academic session:June 6-24
• Second academic session: June 27-July 22
• Art and history museum week: July 25-29
• Third academic session: August 1-19
Full day programs cost $8/hour ($80/day) when enrolled in a full-day session. The first two academic sessions are at Alice Fong Yu School, at Funston and Kirkham. The third session is at St. Anne of The Sunset Church, at Funston and Judah. Class descriptions and teacher bios are available at www.sunsetlearning.net.
